In Instructional Planning class this week, we all modeled what co-teaching looks like in its various forms. My partner and I were assigned station teaching. At first, we couldn't come up with a lesson to do with this style, but our teacher helped us come up with an idea. We decided to teach the five senses, and at each station they had to use a designated sense to find out what the object was in the bag. At the feeling sense station, we had a sponge, at the tasting sense there was sugar, at the smelling sense was hot sauce, at the hearing sense, the other teacher played birds chirping, and at the seeing sense we had a picture full of objects in it, and they just needed to tell us something in the picture. At the end of the stations we came back together to discuss what we all put for objects using our five senses.
I thought this lesson came out good; everyone seemed to have enjoyed it. I also like it because it gave them a chance to apply the content, rather than just talking about smelling, hearing, feeling, etc.
It was good to have done this because I never got to co-teach a lesson before, so it was a good first experience.
