I am really enjoying my first graders and my cooperating teacher. Going to Bellamy Elementary every Tuesday and Wednesday is making my passion for teaching grow everyday I go. I can truly say, I learn a lot each day that I attend; it's something going on everyday all day.
I am in love with the students! I have to work on being more stern with them though. For example, if the students do something wrong, behavior wise, then they get a dollar taken from them. I always tell them, "I'm going to take a dollar if you don't stop," but I don't ever mean it. I feel bad when a dollar is taken from them; they put on their sad face and it makes me feel sad. When I collected the spelling inventories I adminsitered, one student stopped at the third word. My CT seen this and told him to give ME two dollars! I felt so bad, but I knew it was needed.
That's one thing that I admire about my CT, her classroom management skills are on point. Aside from classroom management, my CT's passion for teaching is evident. She always says how she loves her job and everything she has to do outside of the classroom (meetings, paperwork, workshops, etc.) is all worth it because she gets to teach. I also like how she's open to the new strategies in teaching the students. She joked about not being one of those teachers who say, "That's not how we did it in the 80's, why are we changing it?" This type of attitude I appreciate because it keeps my spirits up during the day when I'm there and I hope to obtain the same amount of passion as her if not more.
