Time to look: This is time set out to have students look carefully at an object or a picture. It would be used to encourage curiosity and to pay attention to details more. I would also allow them to just look and think about it to themselves, then discuss it as a class. This should enhance the lesson, by having that powerful moment for the kids to just sit there and think to themselves. Rather than asking a question and students just blurting out things, they're deeply thinking about it first.
Follow-ups: This is where I would want students to justify their answers with evidence with my follow-up questions. "Tell me more about your thinking." "How did you know that?" "Where did it tell you that?" This enhances the lesson by allowing students to justify their answers and doing higher level thinking. Not only can they answer the question, but they can tell you why.
Small group discussion: This method can be done in any lesson. It's a really good way to get everyone on the same page and discuss any confusion that the whole group may have. You'd start with pairs or trios and then work up to large-group discussion. This enhances lessons because it gives other students the oppurtunity to hear their peers thoughts. It also allows the teacher to hear the students' thoughts- formative assessment.
