An important concept I picked up on from Weinstein's chapter 2, is creating a safe and secure classroom. There were five other functions for constructing the physical environment, but this was one of the ones that stuck out the most to me. The students should feel safe in a place where they spend most of their time. It talked about doing this by containing "softness" in the classroom. For example, plants, class pet(s), bean bag chairs, pillows, and carpet. Having fishes as class pets and comfortable furniture seem very ideal for my classroom.
In addition to classroom furniture, the chapter also mentioned a teacher having a living room in her classroom. She says it's to show the kids that a living room can and should be used to read a good book, instead of the constant video games and television. I also want to keep in mind those students with physical disabilities (i.e., glasses, wheelchair, crutches, etc.).
